00:15 Studying at the University of Vienna |

The University of Vienna offers the widest range of studies in Austria. Numerous programmes can be graduated at the University of Vienna (list of all study programmes from A-Z offered).
Three-pillar system of studies
By
the academic year 2008/09, the majority of studies of the University of
Vienna will have been transferred into the three-pillar structure of
the "European Higher Education System" (Bachelor, Master and Doctoral
programmes resp. PhD programmes) – about one third of all subjects
offered already comply with the Bologna Higher Education System.
Currently, the University of Vienna offers 52 Bachelor, 108 Master, 7 Diploma and 10 PhD programmes. Apart from individual Doctoral Studies, there are twelve structured Doctoral Programmes ("Initiative Groups, Initiativkollegs").
Organisation of the courses
35 Studienprogrammleitungen (Study Programme Directoral teams) (SPLs)
provide help and support for the subjects they are responsible for.
This includes drafting the teaching programmes and issues in respect of
study regulations and organisation. Together with their student service
centres they represent the interface between students, lecturers and
student services.
The Studienpräses (in charge of legal matters concerning the studies ) has delegated part of the student administration to the SPLs.
Services for students
Student Point
advises students and prospective students in several languages on
issues pertaining to studying at the University of Vienna – per e-mail,
via the telephone, and personally (opening hours). The Students' Portal covers most of topics that are relevant to study. Together with the Student Management System it has greatly facilitated the organisation of studies.
Study-specific counselling for students is provided
by the Study Programme Directors' teams, the StudienServiceCenter, as
well as by individual student representatives (ÖH). In addition, the
Counselling Centre (Beratungszentrum) of the ÖH Uni Wien (Austrian National Union of Students at the University of Vienna) offers support for students.
Uniport,
the career service tool of the University of Vienna, advises students
and graduates on issues pertaining to their careers, and regularly
hosts professional fairs.
Teaching
6,500 scientists and academics as well as lecturers offer approximately 10,000 lectures and seminars every academic year (see online list of courses). Thus, they contribute significantly to a wide range of different scientific subjects offered in the field of teaching.
A number of courses are also supported by e-learning –
in the summer term of 2007, as many as 2,000 lectures held at the
University of Vienna were available via e-learning. In order to
maintain and further improve the high quality of teaching, all study
programmes and their respective lectures and courses are continually evaluated.
International character
The
University of Vienna is regarded as an international university, and
participates in networks such as ERASMUS/SOCRATES, thereby actively
promoting student mobility.
The number of students and lecturers participating in one of these
mobility programmes has been rising steadily over the past few years.
The international character of the university is
not only revealed by the fact that its students come from more than 130
different countries, but also by the teaching available there: Numerous
lectures and seminars are held by guest professors and speakers from
many different nations.
